The lesson of the five balls

Someone forwarded a link to me and i thought i would share it here as a reminder to myself:

Imagine that life is a game in which you are juggling five balls. The five balls are: family, friends, health, integrity, and work. And you are keeping all of them in the air. But one day you finally come to understand that "work" is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back. The other four---family, friends, health, and integrity---are made of glass. And if you drop them, they will crack, chip, or shatter. Once you truly understand the lesson of the five balls, you will discover balance in your life ---James Patterson

It's from a blog and a reply to a comment was:

Friends, family, health, integrity.....you must care for these balls more than you care for that ball of work. Jobs come and go. Work is the means to an end. Bottom line: you work = they pay you, that's why you're there. There will always be other jobs. There will be jobs that you like much better or much worse than other jobs, but you can always find SOMEthing to do for wages. But family, true friends? Those aren't so easy to come by, those deserve the best treatment, the most care. They deserve the best you have to offer them. Abuse your health too much or neglect it for too long and you won't be able to get it back. And your integrity? What happens to YOU when you damage that, to your self-esteem, to your attitude about yourself and everyone around you? Thinking how true this is...

I was tired of looking at that last post and wanted to put up something else but my dear friend, TIME will not permit me.

This week is terribly busy gosh! Na wa o! All this work just so that man must survive. Abeg any rich guys out there looking for a stay at home wife? I will do for real... Forget all them years in undergrad/grad school. I really just want to sit at home and make dem babies, cook, clean, and just anticipate my husband coming home each nite to meet me in his choice of fantasy outfit... I'll be whatever he wants me to be...police officer, french maid, school girl, etc... (fill in your choice of outfit if you wish)

Ok, enough day dreaming, i laugh at myself a co-worker just came through thinking i was doing serious work. To crown it all up we have some dumb community meeting tonite. This ain't even my community abi wetin una talk?

MY VAL'S DAY

How I Spent My Valentine’s Day.

It was 6:30a.m. when my mobile phone rang and it was him. He was waking me up to say good morning and we ended up saying a prayer for the day, made plans to meet up later tonite for a quiet evening at his place rather than be amongst the other lovers out there in the restaurants.

Headed out of the house at 8:15a.m. only to find a red card with a scripture in it that read:

Love is patient and is kind;
Love doesn't envy.
Love doesn't brag, is not proud, doesn't behave itself inappropriately,
doesn't seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil; doesn't rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.
“Because we know what love is, Our love will never fail”
Dude.

My day just got better! I smiled all the way to work while listening to Steve Harvey’s Strawberry letter. On getting to work, Among the little valentine’s day cards my children had made for me, found a nice big balloon, 1 dozen red roses and a box of cookies- my favorite kind too. With the flowers was a card that simple read:
“love is the greatest gift of all”
Dude.

It was lunch time and before I could head out the door was a delivery from one of the mini restaurants around the area. One of my favorites too: Spicy Shrimp and Chicken linguini with a bottle of wine (yeah, on the job so i didn't drink it) a single rose, and a card that red that read:
"Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us..."
Dude

Could the day be any better I said to myself. The day went on and again at 4:00p.m. arrived another delivery of a gift basket, two pink roses with another card that read:

“God loves us. If we live in love, it serves as a sign that God lives in us. We are capable of love only because God loved us first.”
Dude

All this while, I’m unable to reach him by phone. His not picking up the cell phone and his answering machine for work keeps saying his in a meeting and unable to pick up.

Well, 5:30p.m. work day is over and i'm walking to the car with co-workers and on the car is about 6 balloons and a note that read:
“hope you had a good day?” See you later tonite
Dude

Already excited about what the evening held. Sped the entire way home thinking bout my outfit for the evening. Got home, jumped into the shower with my bath and body sugar scrub, followed by Sensual Amber body wash thinking bout what was going to happen later? I was convinced that after tonite I would be engaged, dude's fiancee, bride to be and start planning my wedding. I was excited! There was no doubt about this one, he is finally ready. My head had already created its own scenario, and how I was going to say “yes, yes, yes! I’ll marry you! And what to follow.

7p.m. came and I was dressed up, made up and ready to go. Yes the plan was to stay home but the way the day had gone, I was convinced we may be going out for the evening to the spot where he would propose and I needed the proposal to be perfect so we could have a romantic and good story to tell.

7:30p.m. on the dot the bell rang. It was him. My heart was beating faster than it had ever. At that rate, I think it could have been sounding loud and clear to anyone close enough to me. I wish I had suspected yesterday so I could have gotten a manicure to make sure my nails were in order to compliment the ring when I showed it off.

As I opened the door, I “promise” my heart stopped beating for a minute-he looked too good to be true. Didn’t understand if it was just me or there was a sudden transformation but all of a sudden he was the most handsome man I had ever laid eyes on…

We hugged and shared a brief kiss before we headed out. We talked casually bout how the day had gone and as usual I had forgotten myself again running my mouth about everything that happened at work and how everyone had “wowed” over the gifts he had sent. We listened to our usual naija jams in the car, my favorites too that included “Olo mi” by Tosin Martin, Kpo Kpo di Kpo by Faze, some 2face, Style plus, etc.

We did end up at his house and I’m thinking again maybe my proposal is not going to happen tonite o, maybe his just in the mood, maybe he just got a big break. Well in the house was a nicely prepared meal of yam and eggs, the table was set for two. Candles on display, lights dimmed, some nice slow jams playing (true my mind was far away, I no remember wetin dey play) I’m blushing sha, if black girls can be blushing. Not very often do I get this kinda treatment. Meal was followed by dessert- a slice of my favorite cake with caramel and whip cream and cherry on it.

O.k so meal is over and dude wants to dance. So we danced. Again I can’t remember what we danced to because I think at this point I was in “spirit”, cloud nine, heaven, whatever you want to call it. We’re done dancing and we just sit talking about random stuffs. We’re seated closely and his holding me tightly to himself; We lock lips/exchange spit a bit more, but it's ok, because we're in-love; I’m thinking at this time can he get to it because me I’m tired and will soon fall asleep. We’re quiet for a while watching and listening to nothing in particular. I’m starting to doze off, infact at one point I’m gone…I’m sleeping…and dude wakes me up… I open my eyes and his on his knees…

It’s the moment! the sleep is gone, and I’m sitting upright my finger ready to receive…

s.chic, we’ve been together for all these years and I know for sure without a doubt in my mind that God has ordained this one. Do me a favor and ….

There is a knock on the door, s.chic you’re not going to work today?

WHAT THE HECK? IT WAS ALL A DREAM…

What kinda dream was that? Watever, I’m going back to sleep to finish up this particular dream.

Unfortunately, sleep did not come easy again and I have to go face the day!!

Hope everyone found something to do or someone to be with this Val’s day…

Nothing Important

I'm bored and want to post something but cannot think of a thing to write about...

In light of that i want to say:

I'm tired...
I'm bored, even though i'm at work...
I'm hungry; skipped lunch and the nearest chinese place takes cash only, i have no cash on me...
I need a proper vacation real bad
I want to relocate to naija
I want a man that would be at my beck and call

Oh sorry, just remembered something i could have written about instead of this nonsense i'm joting...

So i kinda, sorta work with kids rite?(Yeah me sef i don't know) I've noticed something about parents, and maybe i would not understand rite now because i have no kids. Anyway, I've noticed that parents find it hard to acccept that there is something wrong with their kids or their kids need some sorta of special help. (ain't that why they bring them here in the first place? Early Intervention abi it's detection)Yeah, only in Yankee abi? In niaja we say just beat some discipline into the children and the child with straighten up. But it's just not with behavior oh, even though some of those behaviors are off-the chain...

Anyway, recently i over heard a conversation from a co-worker about a child she feels may be dyslexic but i think the parents no wan gree. The child apparently sees things upside down even though she appears to understand the concepts. She mixes up a lot of things even her colors yet her parents insist she just needs one or one attention.

There are many more cases. I remember one mother being told that maybe she should get the child's ears tested because he may not be hearing properly. Na fight the woman dey fight o, say nothing do im child ear say the child just no wan answer...

Ok, i can't think of another now, but i've seen quite a bit like the crazy one i posted about one time. Now i understand all those stages of development stuff to a "T" but these kids truly need help. It's not normal, as sad as it is to say some of them need to seek counseling. I learn something new everyday and i'm quick to compare to niaja sha. Like i remember growing up and don't think i remember them labeling kids with different "big words" labels in any of my primary/secondary years. Now Provisions are made for kids according to what their IEP's says they need

Is this a generational difference? Or truly we africans tend to beat the nonsense out of our children early enough. (Then again i was not beaten as a child, well, expect in boarding school and i think i turned out ok)

Wow... so much for having nothing to say abeg hunger is nacking me i dey go find chops for real...

I've been meaning to post but i've truly been lazy. I actually have a post to put up but it's not complete yet. Maybe later today or tomorrow. In the mean time:

Just witnessed a demon possesed child. Yes, this child is possessed, am sorry to say it and i hate to say it but there is no explanation for such behavior. It's a pity i can't put up a clip of the behavior. She's only 5 years old, in kindergarten, and on a normal day very sweet. Today, i had to go observe her and in my mind i had to be praying for her. Interesting enough, the moment i recognized that her situation had to be spiritual and i started to pray (abeg, all this i was doing in my mind while observing ohhh) she turned to me and started to scream "get out," "get out before i kill you" to the point where she started to kick and push m, this yankee no pay for real... if na niaja, i for don beat dem spirits out of her body for real with my fists and with prayer.

On another note:
naija's are a mess for real (in a good way o) was at a party this weekend and once the "elere" (musician) started to sing "Yahoozee" everyone lost it. Even some older folks. Fingers rolling around the place. Even i found myself doing it... sad huh?

ok, i should try to put up the post i've been trying to for a minute today or tomorrow...

Enjoy

Delirious

Started coming down with a cold/flu/something sha so i was out of the world tired yesterday after getting back from work and it didn't help that someone did not show up and i had to help out even though i have this nonsense forms on my desk i have to complete for too many people during tax season which is around now. (note to self, you have to pick up on those now before those annoying pple start calling for their statements)

So i'm supposed to pick up a friend coming back from naija from the airport today. After taking some medicine to help with this virus i was totally out and enjoying my sleep when my friend called me to remind me not to forget to come pick her up.

Woke up at about 4:30a.m, jumped out of my bed, freaked out that i was late picking her up, as she had asked me to get to the airport for 10p.m.;already imagining her being pissed of as hell because she had to take a cab. Picked up my phone and thought about calling her house but i figured she would probably be asleep. Actually took my pj bottoms off thinking about if i should just go to the airport like that or not.

Thank the good Lord i had to go to the bathroom because while waiting for the urine to finish coming out i took a moment to think about what day it was. I still had my phone in hand so i looked at the time she called me and realized if she was coming in for 10p.m., then she could not have called me at 1:00a.m. to remind me to be at the airport.

That's when i realized it was still only Thursday.... the hiss that followed, even i didn't know i had it in me like that...pskskpskspskskpspkspskspsksppskskpksssss
